Nursing Services

The emphasis of our care is to provide assistance to our patients and their families in their homes wherever possible. Our Nursing Services Department is headed up by Sr Ester Pepper, the Nursing Services Manager. She is in overall control of the In-Patient Unit at Kenilworth, the Community Sisters , Homebased-Care Coordinators and the unit at Lentegeur Hospital. She is assisted by Sr Sybil Fourie and Sr Sharon Sutherland, managers of the respective in-patient units, and Sr Zelda Daniels supervisor of the community sisters.

We currently have 15 community sisters and 2 homebased care co-ordinators with 35 Carers and 42 Relief Carers serving 12 areas:

In Patient Unit

In patient units provide backups to the community hospices and offer up to 14-day admissions for control of symptoms or family respite.

Objectives of Homebased Care

· To provide home based care to patients supervised and supported by the palliative care professional nurse.
· To deliver quality care to patients and the family.
· To train home based caregivers from the community as caregivers.
· To provide ongoing care by referring the patients to the in-patient unit for the follow-up care.
· Draws in and strengthens existing community base care initiatives.
· To provide respectful care for the patients with HIV/AIDS assists in reducing stigmatisation.
