Special Events

Another great way to support St Luke's Hospice is by attending some of our Special Events. These take place throughout the year and not only raise substantial funds for the care of our patients but also provide many opportunities to promote and create awareness about our Palliative Care Service to the public of Cape Town. These events are organised by a team of Event Co-ordinators, assisted in many ways by our wonderful Volunteers. We are presently working on the following events and will keep you updated on further details of these events.

'Bake a Cake for St Luke's Hospice'- Our30th Birthday Celebration

Date: Saturday 4th September 2010

Venue: Cavendish Square

Time: 09h00 onwards

Cost: free

Celebrate St Luke's 30th birthday by joining us and The Giggling Gourmet, Jenny Morris, for a funfilled day at Cavendish Square where St Luke's themed birthday cakes by various talented Cape Town bakers will be on display to be judged. The public will also get the opportunity to vote for, and win the best cake. Many treats and surprises in store, so look for us at Centre Court, Cavendish Square to join in on the fun.

Open Gardens at Cellars Hohenort

Venue: Cellars Hohenort Hotel -93 Brommersvlei Road, Constantia

Entry: R40 includes tea & scone

Time: 10h00 – 16h00

Amble through these spectacular gardens and delight in tea and scones on the veranda. Doors open from 10h00 – 16h00. Tickets are available at the venue on the day. All funds raised through ticket sales during this weekend will go towards the cost of caring for our patients.

Lighting of the Tree Celebration

Date: Sun 5^th Dec 2010

Venue: St Luke’s Hospice, 92 Harfield Road, Kenilworth

Time: 16h00 onwards

Our Tree of Lights ceremony is a unique remembrance ceremony that we hold every year where we string lights around the great pine at our Hospice grounds in Kenilworth to remember and celebrate the memories of those we have lost. Over the years, many people have found our Tree of Lights ceremony to be a unique way of paying tribute to their loved ones. Join us for Carols by Candlelight and watch the Norfolk Pine light up. Food and beverages will be on sale, as well as traditional market stalls, which will start trading at 16h00.

Our Tree of Lights campaign is a pledge that gives companies the opportunity to donate a “light” in memory of loved ones who have passed away. The campaign runs from June to December ever year and this year; our team needs to bring in R1.3 Million.
