Ronita is our current CEO having been at St Luke’s since September 2016. Ronita holds a Masters degree in Social Work from UNISA. She has worked in many NPO settings starting at Pinetown Child Welfare. She went on to be the Head of Social Services of KZN Blind and Deaf Society, and later served as the Director of Community Outreach Centre, St Mary’s Hospital.
Ronita also served as a Supervisor employed at UNISA to manage the practical placements of 4th level student Social Workers. Ronita is currently a PhD candidate and was recently a finalist in the Regional Businesswoman of the Year awards. In her spare time Ronita is an active Rotarian and has a passion for cooking and food.
Xolela is a nurse by background having worked in a wide range of settings including community nursing at St Luke’s Combined Hospices. He has as more than 15 years as a healthcare manager, as well as experience in monitoring and evaluation and research. Xolela has an academic background not only in nursing but commerce too, as well as a postgraduate diploma in HIV management.
Kirsty has been at St Luke’s for almost two years initially as the HOD Volunteer Services and now as HOD Outreach Services responsible for Bereavement, Social Work, Spiritual Care and Volunteers. Kirsty initially completed an LLB at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, followed by a BSc Occupational Therapy from Oxford Brookes University and later an MS Occupational Therapy from Tufts University in Boston. Kirsty then worked for 10 years in a range of healthcare settings in both the acute and community care and has just completed her Masters in Public Health at the University of Cape Town. In her spare time Kirsty enjoys running.
Michelle is the Head of People at SLCH and has been with the organisation since 2017. Michelle has an honours degree in psychology from the University of Johannesburg and has worked extensively in the field of Human Resources including her most recent position as HOD for Human Resources at Pick n Pay. Outside of work Michelle loves the outdoors and travelling.
Rory manages Norfolk Place. He started his career in the South African Navy. He worked his way up the ranks to the Rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was trained as a chef part 4. His qualifications led him to managing several accommodation blocks within the SA Navy over his 21 years’ service. Rory took early retirement from the South African Navy in the early 2000’s.
He was employed as the manager of a retirement complex in the southern suburbs called Grosvenor Square. In 2012 Rory joined the St Luke’s team as the manager of our retirement complex called Norfolk Place. As well as his managerial experience Rory comes with extensive experience of buildings and maintenance and the high quality renovation work of Rory and his team can be seen throughout the buildings of St Luke’s Combined Hospices. Rory has a love for the ocean and is a keen surfer.
Andrew is the Head of Department for Finance and joined the team this year. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, studied at the University of Cape Town his Bachelor of Commerce, did his articles through Deloitte and Touche Cape Town, and thereafter worked via Deloitte Consulting for a number of years.
He also previously worked at Old Mutual as a finance manager both in South Africa and in the United Kingdom, and more recently has substantial property related experience in sales both commercial and residential.
