The St Luke’s Combined Hospices In-patient is a 20 bedded unit with a mix of single rooms and 4 bedded rooms. All the rooms open onto a patio, and overlook an established garden where patients are free to relax with their families. Patients are usually admitted as in-patients at the request of nurses for a short stay of up to 14 days to stabilise symptom and pain control, give families or caregivers respite or provide terminal care.
Our 10-bed, in-patient unit provides 24-hour care to patients by means of a skilled team comprising of:
– Social workers
– Spiritual counsellors
– Complementary therapists
Reasons for admissions:
– Pain and other symptoms, not able to be managed at home.
– Terminal care i.e. End-of-life care
– Occasionally, the family may need respite, and admission of the patient can be discussed.
– The maximum length of stay is 14 days.
The in-patient unit is however not an emergency unit.
